Hartley Historic Village Celebrates

To mark the 175th anniversary of the opening of Victoria Pass, in October 2007 a grand parade of “soldiers” in authentic period uniforms along with other dignitaries and even a Bush Band were brought to the Historic Hartley Village site to honour the great structural feat of Major Sir Thomas Mitchell, designer of the road that connected Mt Victoria to Hartley. Due to his foresight, Victoria Pass became “the Gateway to the West”, changing the face of NSW from being a Penal Colony, to opening up inland New South Wales to graziers and other settlers.
